Book Of Wisdom-Sefer Chochmah

1 Love tzedakah, you who are the shophtim of the olam: think of YHUH with a tov lev and in simplicity of lev seek Him.

2 For He will be found of them who do not put Him to trial; and He shows Himself to such as do not distrust Him.

3 For presumptuous thoughts separate us from Ahlohim. His Power, when it is tried, reproves the unwise.

4 For chochmah shall not enter into a malicious being; nor dwell in the gooff that is subject to sin.

5 For The Ruach HaKodesh of discipline will flee deceit and remove from thoughts that are without binah and will not abide when wickedness comes in.

6 For chochmah is a loving Ruach; and will not acquit a blasphemer of His Words: for Ahlohim is witness of man’s inward thoughts and an emet beholder of his lev and a hearer of his tongue.

7 For The Ruach of YHUH fills the olam: and that which contains all things has da’at of the voice.

8 Therefore he that speaks wicked things cannot be hidden: neither shall vengeance, when it punishes, pass by him.

9 For investigation shall be made into the counsels of the wicked: and the sound of his words shall come to YHUH for the manifestation of his wicked deeds.

10 For the ear of zeal hears all things: and the noise of murmurings is not hidden.

11 Therefore beware of complaining, which is unprofitable; and refrain your tongue from backbiting: for there is no word so secret that shall go for nothing: and the mouth that lies slays the nefesh.

12 Seek not death in the error of your chayim: and pull not upon yourselves destruction with the works of your hands.

13 For Ahlohim made not death: neither has He pleasure in the destruction of the living.

14 For He created all things that they might have their nefesh: and the generations of the olam were at first healthy; there is no poison of destruction in them, nor the malchut of death upon the olam:

15 (For tzedakah and the tzadikim are immortal:)

16 But wicked men with their works and words called death to them: for when they thought to have it as their chaver, they were consumed to nothing and made a brit with it because they are worthy to take part with it.

2 For the wicked said, reasoning within themselves, but not rightly: Our chayim is short and tedious and in the death of a man there is no remedy: neither was there any man known to have returned from the grave.

2 For we are born to live adventurously: and we shall be from now on as though we had never been: for the ruach in our nostrils is as smoke and a little spark in the moving of our lev:

3 Which being extinguished, our gooff shall be turned into ashes and our ruach shall vanish as the soft air,

4 And our name shall be forgotten in time and no man shall have our works in remembrance and our chayim shall pass away as the trace of a cloud and shall be dispersed as a mist, that is driven away with the beams of the shemesh and overcome with the heat of it.

5 For our time is a very shadow that passes away; and after our end there is no returning from the grave: for it is fast sealed, so that no man returns again.

6 Come on therefore, let us enjoy the tov things that are present: and let us speedily use the creatures as in our youth.

7 Let us fill ourselves with costly wine and ointments: and let no flower of the spring pass by us:

8 Let us keter ourselves with rosebuds, before they be withered:

9 Let none of us go without his part of riches: let us leave tokens of our joyfulness in every place: for this is our portion and this is our lot.

10 Let us oppress the poor tzadik man, let us not spare the widow, nor reverence the ancient gray hairs of the zechanim.

11 Let our strength be the torah of tzedakah: for that which is feeble is found to be worthless.

12 Therefore let us lie in wait for the tzadik; because he is not for us and he is utterly contrary to our doings: he upbraids us with our offending the Torah and objects to our shame the violations of our education.

13 He professes to have the da’at of Ahlohim: and he calls himself the child of YHUH.

14 He was made to reprove our wicked thoughts.

15 He is grievous to us even to behold, for his chayim is not like other men's; his derachot are strange to us.

16 We are esteemed by him as counterfeits: he abstains from our derachot as from filthiness: he pronounces the end of the tzadik to be blessed and makes his boast that Ahlohim is his Abba.

17 Let us see if his words be emet: and let us prove what shall happen in the end for him.

18 For if the tzadik man be a son of Ahlohim, He will help him and deliver him from the hand of his enemies.

19 Let us examine him with despitefulness and torture, that we may know his meekness and prove his patience.

20 Let us condemn him with a shameful death: for by his own saying he shall be respected.

21 Such things they did imagine and were deceived: for their own wickedness has blinded them.

22 As for the sods of Ahlohim, they knew them not: neither did they tikvah for the wages of tzedakah, nor discerned a reward for blameless beings.

23 For Ahlohim created man to be immortal and made him to be an image of His own immortality.

24 Nevertheless through the envy of the devil came death into the olam: and they who side with him find death with no immortality.

3 But the beings of the tzadikim are in the hands of Ahlohim and there shall no torment touch them.

2 In the sight of the unwise they seemed to die: and their departure is taken for misery,

3 And their going from us to be utter destruction: but they are in great shalom.

4 For though they be punished in the sight of men, yet is their tikvah full of immortality.

5 And having been a little chastised, they shall be greatly rewarded: for Ahlohim proved them and found them worthy for and of Himself.

6 As gold in the furnace has He tried them and received them as a burnt offering.

7 And in the time of their visitation they shall shine and run to and fro like sparks among the stubble.

8 They shall judge the goyim and have dominion over the people and their YHUH shall reign le-olam-va-ed.

9 They that put their trust in Him shall understand the emet: and such as be faithful in ahava shall abide with Him: for unmerited chen and rachamim is to His kidushim and He has great care for His elect.

10 But the wicked shall be punished according to their own imaginations, who have neglected the tzadikim and forsaken YHUH.

11 For whoever despises chochmah and nurture, he is miserable and their tikvah is vain, their labors unfruitful and their works unprofitable:

12 Their wives are foolish and their children wicked:

13 Their offspring is cursed. So blessed is the barren that is undefiled, who has not known the sinful bed: she shall have fruit in the visitation of kadosh malachim.

14 And blessed is the eunuch, who with his hands has done no iniquity, nor imagined wicked things against Ahlohim: for to him shall be given the special gift of emunah and an inheritance in the Bayit of YHUH more acceptable to His mind.

15 For wonderful is the fruit of tov labors: and the root of chochmah shall never fall away.

16 As for the children of adulterers, they shall not come to their perfection and the zera of a wicked bed shall be rooted out.

17 For though they live long, yet shall they be disregarded: and their last end shall be without esteem.

18 Or, if they die quickly, they have no tikvah, neither comfort in the yom of trial.

19 For horrible is the end of the wicked generation.

4 Better it is to have no children and to have virtue: for their memorial is immortal: because it is known with Ahlohim and with men.

2 When it is present, men take example of it; and when it is gone, they desire it: it wears a keter and triumphs le-olam-va-ed, having gotten the victory, striving for undefiled rewards.

3 But the multiplying brood of the wicked shall not thrive, nor take deep rooting from bastards, nor lay any fast foundation.

4 For though they flourish like branches for a time, yet standing do not last, for they shall be shaken with the ruach and through the force of ruachem they shall be rooted out.

5 The imperfect branches shall be broken off, their fruit unprofitable, not ripe to eat, yes, fit for nothing.

6 For children begotten of unlawful beds are witnesses of wickedness against their parents in their trial.

7 But though the tzadikim be halted by death, yet shall he be in rest.

8 For estimable age is not that which stands for a long time, nor that is measured by number of years.

9 But chochmah is the gray hair to men and an unspotted chayim is old age.

10 He pleased Ahlohim and was beloved of Him, so that living among sinners Chanok was translated.

11 Yes, speedily Chanok was taken away, lest that wickedness should alter his binah, or deceit beguile his nefesh.

12 For the witchcraft of carnality obscures things that are honest; and the wandering of concupiscence undermines the simple mind.

13 He, Chanok, being made perfect instantly, fulfilled a long time plan:

14 For his being pleased YHUH: therefore He hastened to take him away from among the wicked.

15 This the people saw and understood it not, neither did they lay this up in their minds. That His unmerited chen and rachamim is with His kidushim and that He has respect to His chosen.

16 So the tzadikim who are dead shall condemn the wicked who are living; and youth that is soon perfected, the many years and old age of the wicked.

17 For they shall see the end of the wise and shall not understand what Ahlohim in His counsel has decreed of him and to what end YHUH has set him in safety.

18 They shall see him and despise him; but Ahlohim shall laugh them to scorn: and they shall from now on be a vile carcass and a reproach among the dead le-olam-va-ed.

19 For He shall rend them and cast them down headlong, so that they shall be speechless; and He shall shake them from the foundation and they shall be utterly laid waste and be in sorrow and their memory shall perish.

20 And when they cast up the accounts of their sins, they shall come with fear: and their own iniquities shall convince them to their face.

5 Then shall the tzadik man stand in great boldness before the face of such as have afflicted him and made no account of his labors.

2 When they see it, they shall be troubled with terrible fear and shall be amazed at the strangeness of his YAHUSHA, so far beyond all that they looked for.

3 And they repenting and groaning for anguish of ruach shall say within themselves, This was he whom we had sometimes held in derision and a proverb of reproach:

4 We fools accounted his chayim madness and his end to be without esteem:

5 Yet how is he numbered among the children of Ahlohim and his lot is among the kidushim!

6 Therefore have we erred from the derech of emet and the ohr of tzedakah has not shined on us and The Shemesh of Tzedakah rose not upon us.

7 We wearied ourselves in the derech of wickedness and destruction: yes, we have gone through deserts where there was no derech: but as for the derech of YHUH, we have not known it.

8 What has pride profited us? Or, what tov has riches with our arrogance brought us?

9 All those things are passed away like a shadow and as a post that hurried by;

10 And as a ship that passes over the waves of the mayim, which when it is gone by, no trace of it can be found, neither the pathway of the keel in the waves;

11 Or, as when a bird has flown through the air, there is no sign of its derech to be found, but the ohr air being beaten with the stroke of her wings and parted with the violent noise and motion of them, is passed through and then afterwards no clue where it went is to be found;

12 Or, as when an arrow is shot at a mark, it parts the air, which immediately comes together again, so that a man cannot know where it went through:

13 Even so we in like manner, as soon as we were born, began to draw to our end and had no ot of virtue to show; but were consumed in our own wickedness.

14 For the tikvah of the wicked is like dust that is blown away with the wind; like a thin foam that is driven away with the storm; as the smoke which is dispersed here and there with a tempest and passes away as the remembrance of a guest who only stays one yom.

15 But the tzadikim live le-olam-va-ed; their reward also is with YHUH and the care of them is with the Most High.

16 Therefore shall they receive an esteemed malchut and a beautiful keter from YHUH's hand: for with His Right Hand shall He cover them and with His Arm shall He protect them.

17 He shall take to Him His zeal for complete armor and make the creature His weapon for the revenge of His enemies.

18 He shall put on tzedakah as a breastplate and emet mishpat instead of a helmet.

19 He shall take set apartness for an invincible shield.

20 His severe wrath shall He sharpen for a sword and the olam shall fight with Him against the unwise.

21 Then shall the right aiming thunderbolts go abroad and from the clouds, as from a well-drawn bow, shall they fly to the mark.

22 And hailstones full of wrath shall be cast as out of a stone bow and the mayim of the sea shall rage against them and the floods shall cruelly drown them.

23 Yes, a mighty wind shall stand up against them and like a storm shall blow them away: so iniquity shall lay waste the whole olam and evil dealing shall overthrow the thrones of the mighty.

6 Shema therefore, O you melechim and get binah; learn, you shophtim of the ends of the olam.

2 Give ear, you who rule the people and gilah in the multitude of goyim.

3 For Power is given to you from YHUH and sovereignty from The Highest, who shall try your works and search out your counsels.

4 Because, being ministers of His malchut, you have not judged rightly, nor kept the Torah, nor walked after the counsel of YHUH;

5 Horribly and speedily shall He come upon you: for a sharp mishpat shall be to them that be in high places.

6 For rachamim will soon pardon the meanest: but mighty men shall be mightily tormented.

7 For He who is YHUH over all, shall fear no man's person, neither shall He stand in awe of any man's greatness: for He has made the small and great and cares for all alike.

8 But a sore trial shall come upon the mighty.

9 Unto you therefore, O melechim, do I speak, that you may learn chochmah and not fall away.

10 For they that keep set apartness in tzedakah shall be judged set apart: and they that have learned such things shall find what to answer.

11 So set your affection upon My Words; long for them and you shall be instructed.

12 Chochmah is estimable and never fades away: yes, she is easily seen of them that love her and found of such as seek her.

13 She precedes them that strive for her, in making herself first known to them.

14 Whoever seeks her early shall have no great travail: for he shall find her sitting at his doors.

15 To think about her is perfection of chochmah: and whoever watches for her shall quickly be without worry.

16 For she goes about seeking such as are worthy of her and shows herself kindly to them in the derachot and meets them in every thought.

17 For the very emet beginning of her is the longing for discipline; and the care of discipline is ahava;

18 And ahava is the keeping of her Torot; and giving heed to her Torot is the assurance of incorruption;

19 And incorruption makes us near to be with Ahlohim:

20 Therefore the longing for chochmah brings to His malchut.

21 If your delight be then in malchut thrones and scepters, O you melechim of the people, esteem chochmah, that you may reign le-olam-va-ed.

22 As for chochmah, what she is and how she came up, I will tell you and will not hide sods from you: but will seek her out from the beginning of her manifestations and bring the da’at of her into the ohr and will not pass over the emet.

23 Neither will I go with consuming envy; for such a man shall have no chavurah with chochmah.

24 But the multitude of the wise is the welfare of the olam: and a wise melech is the affirmation of the people.

25 Receive therefore Torah through my Words and it shall do you tov.

7 I myself also am a mortal man, like all and the offspring of him that was first made from the dust,

2 And in my emma's womb I was fashioned to be flesh for the time of ten chodashem, being compacted in dahm, of the zera of man and the pleasure that came with intimacy.

3 And when I was born, I drew in the common air and entered the olam, which is of like nature and the first voice which I uttered was my own crying, as all others do.

4 I was nursed in swaddling clothes and that with parental care.

5 For there is no melech that had any other beginning of birth.

6 For all men have one entrance into chayim and one going out.

7 So I made tefillah and binah was given me: I called upon Ahlohim and The Ruach of chochmah came to me.

8 I preferred her before scepters and thrones and esteemed riches, as nothing in comparison to her.

9 Neither compared I to her any precious stone because all gold compared to her is as a little sand and silver shall be counted as clay before her.

10 I loved her above health and beauty and chose to have her instead of ohr: for the ohr that comes from her never goes out.

11 All tov things together came to me with her and innumerable riches are in her hands.

12 And I rejoiced in them all because chochmah goes before them all: and I knew not that she was the emma of them.

13 I learned diligently and do communicate with her liberally: I do not hide her riches.

14 For she is a treasure to men that never fails, which they that use become the chaverim of Ahlohim, being commended for the gifts that come from learning.

15 Ahlohim has granted me to speak as I would and to conceive as is fitting for the things that are given me: because it is He that leads to chochmah and directs the wise.

16 For in His hand are both we and our words; all chochmah also and da’at of workmanship.

17 For He has given me certain da’at of the things that are, namely, to know how the olam was made and the operation of the elements:

18 The beginning, ending and midst of the times: the alterations of the turning of the shemesh-tekufot and the change of moadem:

19 The circuits of years and the positions of cochavim:

20 The natures of living creatures and the furies of wild beasts: the violence of winds and the reasonings of men: the diversities of plants and the virtues of roots:

21 And all such things as are either sod or manifest, them I know.

22 For chochmah, which is the worker of all things, taught me: for in her is a ruach of binah, set apart, unique, many-sided, subtle, lively, clear, undefiled, plain, not subject to hurt, loving the thing that is actively tov, which cannot be restrained, ready to do tov,

23 Kind to man, steadfast, sure, free from care, having all Power, overseeing all things and going through all binah, pure and most subtle ruachim.

24 For chochmah is more powerful than any motion: she passes and goes through all things by reason of her purity.

25 For she is The Ruach of The Power of Ahlohim and a pure influence flowing from the kavod of The Almighty: therefore no defiled thing can fall into her.

26 For she is the brightness of The Everlasting Ohr, the unspotted mirror of The Power of Ahlohim and the image of His tovah.

27 And being Echad, she can do all things: by herself, she makes all things new: and in all ages entering into set apart beings, she makes them chaverim of Ahlohim and neviim.

28 For Ahlohim loves no one but him that dwells with chochmah.

29 For she is more beautiful than the shemesh and above all the order of cochavim: being compared with the ohr, she is found before it.

30 For after this comes lyla: but vice shall not prevail against chochmah.

8 Chochmah reaches from one end to another mightily: and sweetly she orders all things.

2 I loved her and sought her out from my youth, I desired to make her my spouse and I was a lover of her beauty.

3 In that she that talks with Ahlohim, she magnifies her nobility: yes, YHUH of all things Himself loves her.

4 For she is privy to the sods of the da’at of Ahlohim and a lover of His works.

5 If riches be a possession to be desired in this chayim; what is richer than chochmah that works all things?

6 And if prudence works; who of all, are a more skilled worker than she?

7 And if a man loves tzedakah her labors are virtues: for she teaches self-control and prudence, tzedakah and fortitude: which are such things, that men can have nothing more profitable in their chayim.

8 If a man desires much experience, she knows things of old and discerns rightly what is to come: she knows the subtleties of languages and can expound hidden sods: she foresees signs and wonders and the events of moadem and times.

9 Therefore I purposed to take her to me to live with me, knowing that she would be a counselor of tov things and a comfort in cares and grief.

10 For her sake I shall have kavod among the multitude and esteem with the elders, though I be young.

11 I shall be found of a quick binah in mishpat and shall be admired in the sight of great men.

12 When I hold my tongue, they shall bide my leisure and when I speak, they shall give tov ear to me: if I talk much, they shall lay their hands upon their mouth.

13 Moreover by the means of her I shall obtain immortality and leave behind me an everlasting memory to them that come after me.

14 I shall set the people in order and the goyim shall be subject to me.

15 Horrible tyrants shall be afraid when they only hear of me; I shall be found tov among the multitude and valiant in war.

16 After I am come into my bayit, I will repose myself with her: for her conversation has no bitterness; and to live with her has no sorrow, but simcha and gilah.

17 Now when I considered these things inside myself and pondered them in my lev, how that to be allied to chochmah is immortality;

18 And great pleasure it is to have her friendship; and in the works of her hands are infinite riches; and in consultation with her, prudence; and in talking with her, a tov report; I went about seeking how to take her inside me.

19 For I was a wise child and had a tov ruach.

20 Yes rather, being tov, I came into a gooff undefiled.

21 Nevertheless, when I perceived that I could not otherwise obtain her, except Ahlohim gave her to me; and that was a point of chochmah also, to know whose gift she was; I made tefillah to YHUH and sought Him and with my whole lev I said,

9 O Ahlohim of my ahvot and YHUH of rachamim, who have made all things with Your Word,

2 And ordained man through Your chochmah, that he should have dominion over the creatures which You have made,

3 And order the olam according to equity and tzedakah and execute mishpat with an upright lev:

4 Give me chochmah that sits by Your kesay; and reject me not from among Your children:

5 For I Your eved and ben of Your handmaid am a feeble person and of a short time and too young for the binah of mishpat and Torot.

6 For though a man be perfect among the children of men, yet if Your chochmah be not with him, he shall be regarded as nothing.

7 You have chosen me to be a melech of Your people and a shophet of Your sons and daughters:

8 You have commanded me to build a Beit HaMikdash upon Your set apart har and an altar in the city where You dwell, a resemblance of the set apart Sukkah that You have prepared from Beresheeth.

9 And chochmah was with You, who know Your works and was present when You made the olam and knew what was acceptable in Your sight and right in Your mitzvoth.

10 O send her out of Your set apart shamayim and from the Kesay of Your tifereth, that being present she may labor with me, that I may know what is pleasing to You.

11 For she knows and has binah in all things and she shall lead me soberly in my doings and preserve me in her Power.

12 So shall my works be acceptable and then shall I judge Your people with tzedakah and be worthy to sit in my abba's kesay.

13 For what man is he that can know the counsel of Ahlohim? Or, who can think what the will of YHUH is?

14 For the thoughts of mortal men are miserable and our devices are but uncertain.

15 For the corruptible gooff presses down the being and the earthly sukkah weighs down the mind that stresses upon many things.

16 And hardly do we guess rightly at things that are upon the olam and with labor do we find the things that are before us: but who has searched out the things that are in the shamayim?

17 And who has known Your counsel except You give chochmah and send Your Ruach HaKodesh from above?

18 For so the derachot of them which lived on the olam were reformed and men were taught the things that are pleasing to You and were saved through chochmah.

10 She preserved the first-formed abba of the olam, who was created alone and brought him out of his fall,

2 And gave him power to rule all things.

3 But when the wicked went away from her in his anger, he perished also in the fury when he murdered his brother.

4 For whose cause the olam being drowned with the flood, chochmah again preserved it and directed the course of the tzadikim in a piece of wood of small value to the olam.

5 Moreover, the goyim in their wicked conspiracy being confounded, she found out the tzadik and preserved him blameless to Ahlohim and kept him strong against his tender rachamim toward his son.

6 When the wicked perished, she delivered the tzadik man Lot, who fled from the fire which fell down upon the five cities.

7 Of whose wickedness even to this yom the waste land that smokes is a testimony and plants bearing fruit that never come to ripeness: and a standing pillar of salt is a monument of an unbelieving being.

8 For regarding not chochmah, they got not only this hurt, that they knew not the things which were tov; but also left them behind to the olam as an ot of their foolishness: so that in the things in which they offended they could not so much as be hidden.

9 But chochmah delivered from pain those that attended upon her.

10 When the tzadik Yaakov fled from his brother's wrath, she guided him in right paths and showed him the Malchut of YHUH and gave him da’at of set apart things, made him rich in his travels and multiplied the fruit of his labors.

11 In the covetousness of such as oppressed him she stood by him and made him rich.

12 She defended him from his enemies and kept him safe from those that lay in wait and in a sore conflict she gave him the victory; that he might know that tovah is stronger than all.

13 When the tzadik was sold, she forsook him not, but delivered him from sin: she went down with him into the pit,

14 And left him not in bonds, till she brought him the scepter of the malchut and power against those that oppressed him: as for them that had accused him, she showed them to be liars and gave him perpetual esteem.

15 She delivered the tzadikim and blameless zera from the nation that oppressed them.

16 She entered into the being of the eved of YHUH, Moshe and withstood dreadful melechim in wonders and signs;

17 Rendered to the tzadikim a reward for their labors, guided them in a marvelous derech and was to them for a cover by yom and a ohr of fire in the lyla season;

18 Brought them through the Yam Suf and led them through much mayim:

19 But she drowned their enemies and cast them up out of the bottom of the deep.

20 Therefore the tzadikim spoiled the wicked and praised Your set apart Name, O YHUH and magnified with one accord Your Right Hand, YAHUSHA, that fought for them.

21 For chochmah opened the mouth of the dumb and made the tongues of them that cannot speak eloquent.

11 She prospered their works in the hand of the kadosh navi Moshe.

2 They went through the wilderness that was not inhabited and pitched tents in places where there lay no derech.

3 They stood against their enemies and were avenged of their adversaries.

4 When they were thirsty, they called upon You and mayim was given them out of the flinty Rock and their thirst was quenched out of the hard stone.

5 For by what things their enemies were punished, by the same they in their need were benefited.

6 For instead of a perpetual running river troubled with foul dahm,

7 For a manifest reproof of that mitzvah, by which the infants were slain, You gave to them an abundance of mayim by a means which they did not expect:

8 Declaring by that thirst then how You had punished their adversaries.

9 For when they were tried yet in rachamim chastised, they knew how the wicked were judged in wrath and tormented, thirsting in another manner than the tzadikim.

10 For these You admonished and tried as an Abba: but the other, as a severe Melech, You condemned and punished.

11 Whether they were absent or present, they were vexed alike.

12 For a double grief came upon them and a groaning for the remembrance of things past.

13 For when they heard by their own punishments the other to be benefited, they had angry feelings towards YHUH.

14 For whom they treated with scorn, when he was long before thrown out at the casting forth of the infants, Moshe, in the end, when they saw what came to pass, they admired.

15 But for the foolish devices of their wickedness, with which being deceived they worshipped serpents, demons, void of reason and vile beasts, You sent a multitude of unreasonable beasts upon them for vengeance;

16 That they might know, that by which a man sins, by the same also shall he be punished.

17 For Your Almighty Hand, that made the olam of matters without form, lacked not the means to send among them a multitude of bears or fierce lions,

18 Or, unknown wild beasts, full of rage, newly created, breathing out either a fiery vapor, or filthy scents of scattered smoke, or shooting horrible sparkles out of their eyes:

19 So that not only the harm might remove them at once, but also the terrible sight utterly destroy them.

20 Yes and without these might they have fallen down with one blast, being persecuted of vengeance and scattered abroad through The Ruach of Your Power: but You have ordered all things in measure and number and weight.

21 For You can show Your great strength at all times when You will; and who may withstand the Power of Your Arm?

22 For the whole olam before You is as a little grain of the balance, yes, as a drop of the boker dew that falls down upon the olam.

23 But You have rachamim upon all; for You can do all things and wink at the sins of men because they should amend.

24 For You love all the things that are and abhor nothing which You have made: for never would You have made any thing if You had hated it.

25 And how could any thing have endured if it had not been Your will? Or, been preserved, if not called by You?

26 But You spare all: for they are Yours, O YHUH, You are the lover of all naphshot.

12 For Your incorruptible Ruach is in all things.

2 Therefore chasten them little by little that offend and warn them by putting them in remembrance in which they have offended, that leaving their wickedness they may believe on You, O YHUH.

3 For it was Your will to destroy by the hands of our ahvot both those old inhabitants of Your

set apart land,

4 Whom You hated for doing most odious works of witchcrafts and wicked sacrifices, demon worship;

5 And also those merciless murderers of children and devourers of man's flesh and the moadem of dahm,

6 With their kohanim out of the midst of their idolatrous crew and the parents, that killed with their own hands beings destitute of help:

7 That the land, which You esteemed above all others, might receive a worthy family of Ahlohim's children.

8 Nevertheless even those You spared as men and sent wasps, forerunners of Your host, to destroy them by little and little.

9 Not that You were unable to bring the wicked under the hand of the tzadikim in battle, or to destroy them at once with cruel beasts, or with one rough Word:

10 But executing Your mishpatim upon them little by little, You gave them room for teshuvah, not being ignorant that they were a wicked generation and that their malice was bred in them and that their derachot would never be changed.

11 For it was a cursed zera from the beginning; neither did You for fear of any man give them any pardon for those things in which they sinned.

12 For who shall say, What have You done? Or, who shall withstand Your mishpat? Or, who shall accuse You for the goyim that perish, whom You made? Or, who shall come to stand against You, to be revenged for the wicked men?

13 For neither is there any Ahlohim but You that cares for all, to whom You might show that Your mishpat is tzadik.

14 Neither shall melech or tyrant be able to set his face against You for any whom You have punished.

15 Becasue You are Tzadik Yourself, You order all things righteously: thinking it not agreeable with Your Power to condemn him that has not deserved to be punished.

16 For Your Power is the beginning of tzedakah and because You are YHUH of all, that makes You give chen to all.

17 For when men will not believe that You are full of Power, You show Your strength and among them that know it, You make their boldness manifest.

18 But You, mastering Your Power, judge with equity and order us with great chen: for You may use Power when You will.

19 But by such works have You taught Your people that the just man should be merciful and have made Your children to be of a tov tikvah that You give repentance for sins.

20 For You punished the enemies of Your children and those condemned to death with such deliberation, giving them time and place by which they might be delivered from their malice:

21 With how great circumspection did You give mishpat to Your own sons, to whose ahvot You have sworn and made britot of tov promises?

22 Therefore, whereas You do chasten us, You scourge our enemies a thousand times more, to the intent that, when we give mishpat, we should carefully think of Your tov and when we ourselves are judged, we should look for rachamim.

23 Therefore, whereas men have lived wicked and unrighteously, You have tormented them with their own abominations.

24 For they went astray very far in the derachot of error and held them as ahlohim which even among the beasts of their enemies were despised, being deceived, as children of no binah.

25 Therefore to them, as to children without the use of reason, You sent a mishpat to mock them.

26 But they that would not be reformed by that correction, in which He had patience with them, should feel a mishpat worthy of Ahlohim.

27 For look, for what things they grumbled to when they were punished, that is, for them whom they thought to be ahlohim; now being punished in them, when they saw it, they acknowledged Him to be the emet Ahlohim, whom before they denied: and therefore came extreme damnation upon them.

13 Surely vain are all men by nature, who are ignorant of Ahlohim and could not out of the tov things that are seen know Him that is: neither by considering the works did they acknowledge the Master of the work,

2 But deemed either fire, or wind, or the swift air, or the circle of the cochavim, or the violent mayim, or the lights of the shamayim, to be the ahlohim which govern the olam.

3 With whose beauty they being delighted took them to be ahlohim; rather let them know how much better YHUH is than they are: for The First Author of beauty has created them.

4 But if they were astonished at their power and virtue, let them understand by them how much mightier He is who made them.

5 For by the greatness and beauty of the creation, proportionately the Maker of them is seen.

6 But yet for this they are the less to be blamed: for they go into error, seeking Ahlohim and longing to find Him.

7 For being familiar with His works they search Him diligently and believe their sight: because the things are beautiful that are seen.

8 But neither are they to be pardoned.

9 For if they were able to know so much that they could aim at the olam; how did they not find YHUH sooner?

10 But miserable are they and in dead things is their tikvah, who call them ahlohim that are the works of men's hands, gold and silver, to show art in and resemblances of beasts, or a stone, tov for nothing, the work of an ancient hand.

11 Now a carpenter that fells timber, after he has sawn down an eytz fitting for the purpose and taken off all the bark skillfully round about and has worked it carefully and made a vessel of it fit for the service of man's chayim;

12 And after spending the refuse of his work to dress his meat, has filled himself;

13 And taking the very refuse among those which served to no use, being a crooked piece of wood and full of knots, has carved it diligently, when he had nothing else to do and formed it by the skill of his binah and fashioned it to the image of a man;

14 Or, made it like some vile beast, laying it over with color and with paint coloring it red and covering every spot in it;

15 And when he had made a convenient room for it, set it in a wall and made it fast with iron:

16 For he provided for it that it might not fall, knowing that it was unable to help itself; for it is an image and has need of help:

17 Then makes tefillah for his goods, for his wife and children and is not ashamed to speak to that which has no chayim.

18 For health he calls upon that which is weak: for chayim he prays to that which is dead; for aid humbly beseeches that which has the least means to help: and for a tov journey he asks of that which cannot set a foot forward:

19 And for gaining and getting and for tov success of his hands, asks ability to do of him that is most unable to do anything.

14 Again, one preparing himself to sail and about to pass through the raging waves calls upon a piece of wood more rotten than the vessel that carries him!

2 For he looks for a bracha from that which the workman built by his skill.

3 But Your providence, O Abba, governs it: for You have made a derech in the sea and a safe derech in the waves;

4 Showing that You can save from all danger: yes, though a man went to sea without art.

5 Nevertheless, You would not that the works of Your chochmah should be idle and therefore do men commit their lives to a small piece of wood and passing the rough sea in a weak vessel are saved.

6 For in the old times also, when the proud giants perished, the tikvah of the olam governed by Your hand escaped in a weak vessel of wood and left to all ages a zera of regeneration.

7 For blessed is The Wood by which Tzedakah comes.

8 But that which is made with hands is cursed as well as he that made it: he because he made it; and it because, being corruptible, it was called ahlohim.

9 For the wicked and his wickedness are both alike, hateful to Ahlohim.

10 For that which is made shall be punished together with him that made it.

11 Therefore even upon the idols of the goyim shall there be a visitation: because in the creation of their ahlohim they are become abominations and stumbling blocks to the naphshot of men and a snare to the feet of the unwise.

12 For the devising of idols was the beginning of spiritual fornication and the invention of them, the corruption of chayim.

13 For neither were they from Beresheet; neither shall they be le-olam-va-ed.

14 For by the vanity of men, they entered into the olam and therefore shall they come shortly to an end.

15 For an abba afflicted with untimely mourning, when he has made an image of his child who died young, now esteemed him as an ahlohim, which was then a dead man and delivered to those that were under him ceremonies and sacrifices, witchcraft and dahm sacrifices.

16 So in process of time a wicked custom grew strong and was kept as a law and graven images were worshipped on the orders of melechim.

17 Whom men could not esteem in presence because they dwelt far off, they took the counterfeit of his visage from far and made an express image of a melech whom they esteemed, to the end that by this, they might flatter him that was absent, as if he were present.

18 Also the singular diligence of the designer, helped to encourage the ignorant to more superstition.

19 For he, perhaps willing to please the one in authority, forced all his skill to make the resemblance of the best quality.

20 And so the multitude, allured by the diligence of the work, took him now for an ahlohim, which a little before was not esteemed.

21 And this was an occasion to deceive the olam: for men, serving either calamity or tyranny, ascribed to stones and wood the beautiful Name of YHUH.

22 Moreover this was not enough for them that they erred in the da’at of Ahlohim; but whereas they lived in the great war of ignorance, they called those great plagues as if they were shalom.

23 For while they slew their children in sacrifices, or used secret ceremonies, the occult or made reveling of strange religious rites;

24 They kept neither lives nor kadosh marriages any longer undefiled: but either one slew another traitorously or grieved him by adultery.

25 So that there reigned in all men without exception dahm, manslaughter, theft and dissimulation, corruption, unfaithfulness, tumults, perjury,

26 Disquieting of tov men, forgetfulness of tov turns, defiling of beings, changing of kinds, disorder in marriages, adultery and shameless uncleanness.

27 For the worshipping of idols, not even to be named, is the beginning and the cause and the end, of all evil.

28 For either they are mad when they be merry, or prophesy lies, or live unjustly, or else lightly take oaths.

29 For since their trust is in idols, which have no chayim; though they swear falsely, yet they look not to be hurt.

30 Yet, for both causes shall they be justly punished: both because they thought not well of Ahlohim, giving heed to idols and also unjustly swore in deceit, despising set apartness.

31 For it is not the power of them by whom they swear: but it is the just vengeance of sinners that always punishes the offence of the wicked.

15 But You, O Ahlohim, are kind and emet, longsuffering and in rachamim ordering all things,

2 For if we sin, we are Yours, knowing Your Power: but we will not sin, knowing that we are accounted as Yours.

3 For to know You is perfect tzedakah: yes, to know Your Power is the root of immortality.

4 For neither did the mischievous invention of men deceive us, nor an image spotted with diverse colors, the painter's fruitless labor;

5 The sight which entices fools to lust after it and so they want the form of a dead image that has no breath.

6 Both they that make them, they that desire them and they that worship them are lovers of evil things and are worthy to have such things to trust upon.

7 For the potter, tempering soft earth, fashions every vessel with much labor for our service: yes, of the same clay he makes both the vessels that serve for clean uses and likewise also all such as serve to the contrary: but what is the use of either sort, the potter himself is the shophet.

8 And employing his labors lewdly, he makes a vain ahlohim of the same clay, even that which a little before was made of the earth itself and within a little while after that returns to the same, when his chayim which was lent to him shall be demanded.

9 Notwithstanding his care is not that he shall have much labor, nor that his chayim is short: but strives to excel goldsmiths and silversmiths and endeavors to do like the workers in brass and counts it as his tifereth to make counterfeit things.

10 His lev is ashes, his tikvah is more vile than earth and his chayim of less value than clay:

11 Becasue he knew not his Maker, He who breathed into him an active being, a living ruach.

12 But they counted our chayim a pastime and our time here a market for gain: for, say they, we must be getting riches in every derech, though it be by evil means.

13 For this man that of earthly matter, makes brittle vessels and graven images, knows himself to offend above all others.

14 And all the enemies of Your people who hold them in subjection are most foolish and more miserable than little babies.

15 For they counted all the idols of the heathen to be ahlohim: which neither have the use of eyes to see, nor noses to draw breath, nor ears to hear, nor fingers of hands to handle; and as for their feet, they cannot move.

16 For man made them and he that borrowed his own ruach fashioned them: but no man can make an ahlohim like himself.

17 For being mortal, he works a dead thing with wicked hands: for he himself is better than the things which he worships: whereas he lived once, but they never did.

18 Yes, they worshipped those beasts also that are most hateful: for being compared together, some are worse than others.

19 Neither are they beautiful, so much as to be longed for in respect of beasts: but they went without the hallel of Ahlohim and His bracha.

16 Therefore by the like were they punished worthily and by the multitude of beasts tormented.

2 Instead of punishment, You dealt graciously with Your own people, You prepared for them meat of a strange taste, even quails to stir up their appetite:

3 To the end that they, lusting after food, might for the ugly sight of the beasts sent among them loathe even that which they must have; but these, suffering lack for a short space, might be made partakers of a strange taste.

4 For it was requisite that upon them exercising tyranny should come lack, which they could not avoid: but to these it should only be showed how their enemies were tormented.

5 For when the horrible fierceness of beasts came upon these and they perished with the stings of crooked serpents, Your wrath endured not le-olam-va-ed:

6 But they were troubled for a small season, that they might be admonished, having an ot of YAHUSHA, to put them in remembrance of the mitzvah of Your Torah.

7 For he that turned himself toward it was not saved by the thing that he saw, but by You, for You are the YAHUSHA of all.

8 And in this You made Your enemies confess that it is You who delivers from all evil:

9 For them the bitings of grasshoppers and flies also killed, neither was there found any remedy for their chayim: for they were worthy to be punished by such.

10 But the very teeth of venomous dragons, demons did not overcome Your sons, for Your rachamim was always with them and healed them.

11 For they were pricked, that they should remember Your Words; and were quickly saved, that not falling into deep forgetfulness, they might be continually mindful of Your tovah.

12 For it was neither herbs nor topicals that restored them to health, but Your Word, O YHUH, who heals all things.

13 For You have Power of chayim and death: You lead to the gates of Sheol and bring back up again.

14 A man indeed kills through his malice: and the ruach, when it is gone forth, returns not, neither the being received up comes again.

15 But it is not possible to escape Your hand.

16 For the wicked who declined to know You, were scourged by the strength of Your Arm. With strange rains, hails and showers that they could not avoid, they were persecuted and through fire were they consumed.

17 For it is most wonderful that the fire had more force in the mayim that quenches all things: for the olam fights for the tzadikim.

18 For sometimes the flame was mitigated, that it might not burn up the beasts that were sent against the wicked, that they might see and perceive that they were persecuted with the mishpat of Ahlohim.

19 And at another time it burns even in the midst of mayim above the power of fire, that it might destroy the fruits of an unjust land.

20 Instead You fed Your own people with malachim’s food and sent them from the shamayim lechem, prepared without their labor, able to content every man's delight and agreeing to every taste.

21 For Your sustenance declared Your sweetness to Your children and serving to the appetite of the eater, adjusted itself to every man's liking.

22 But snow and ice endured the fire and melted not, that they might know that fire burning in the hail and sparkling in the rain destroyed the fruits of the enemies.

23 But this again did even forget his own strength, that the tzadikim might be nourished.

24 For the creature that serves You who are the Maker increases his strength against the wicked for their punishment and abates his strength for the benefit of such as put their trust in You.

25 Therefore even then was it altered into all fashions and was obedient to Your unmerited chen, that nourishes all things, according to the longing of them that had need:

26 That Your children, O YHUH, whom You love, might know that it is not the growing of fruits that nourishes man, but that it is Your Word which preserves them that put their trust in You.

27 For that which was not destroyed of the fire, being warmed with a little sunbeam, soon melted away:

28 That it might be known, that we must bypass the shemesh to give You hodu and in the boker, make tefillah to You.

29 For the tikvah of the unthankful shall melt away as the winter's frost and shall float away as unprofitable mayim.

17 For great are Your mishpatim and cannot be expressed: therefore untrained beings have erred.

2 For when wicked men thought to oppress the set apart malchut; they being shut up in their houses, the prisoners of the lyla, fettered with the bonds of a long lyla, lay there exiled from the perpetual Providence.

3 For while they supposed to lie hidden in their secret sins, they were scattered under a dark veil of forgetfulness, being horribly astonished and troubled with strange apparitions.

4 For neither might the corner that held them keep them from fear: but noises as of waters falling down sounded about them and sad visions appeared to them with heavy countenances.

5 No power of the fire might give them ohr: neither could the bright flames of the cochavim endure to lighten that horrible lyla.

6 Only there appeared to them a fire kindled of itself, very dreadful: for being much terrified, they thought the things which they saw to be worse than the sight they saw not.

7 As for the illusions of designer’s magic, they were put down and their boasting in chochmah was reproved with disgrace.

8 For they that promised to drive away terrors and troubles from a sick being, were sick themselves of fear, worthy to be laughed at.

9 For though no terrible thing feared them; yet being scared with beasts that passed by and hissing of serpents,

10 They died for fear, denying that they saw the air, which could not be avoided.

11 For wickedness, condemned by her own witness, is very fearful, being pressed with conscience, always forecasts grievous things.

12 For fear is nothing else but a betraying of the helpers which reason offers.

13 And the expectation from within, being less, counts the ignorance more than the cause which brings the torment.

14 But they sleeping the same sleep that lyla, which was indeed intolerable and which came upon them out of the bottoms of the inevitable Sheol,

15 Were partly vexed with monstrous apparitions, demons and partly fainted, their lev failing them: for a sudden fear came upon them.

16 So then whoever there fell down was strictly kept, shut up in a prison without iron bars,

17 For whether he were a farmer, or shepherd, or a laborer in the field, he was overtaken and endured that necessity, which could not be avoided: for they were all bound with the one chain of lyla.

18 Whether it were a whistling wind, or a melodious noise of birds among the spreading branches, or a pleasing fall of mayim running violently,

19 Or, a terrible sound of stones cast down, or a running that could not be seen of moving beasts, or a roaring voice of most savage wild beasts, or a rebounding echo from the hollow mountains; these things made them to swoon for fear.

20 For the whole olam shined with clear ohr and none were hindered in their labor:

21 Over them only was spread a heavy lyla, an image of that same darkness which should afterward receive them: but yet were they to themselves more grievous than the darkness.

18 Nevertheless Your kidushim had a very great Ohr, whose voice they heard but did not see His shape. Because they also had not suffered the same things, they counted themselves blessed.

2 But for that they did not hurt them now, of whom they had been wronged before, they thanked them and sought them pardon for that they had been enemies.

3 Instead, You gave them a burning pillar of fire, both to be a guide of the unknown journey and a harmless shemesh to entertain them.

4 For they who had kept Your sons shut up, by whom the pure Ohr of the Torah was to be given to the olam, were worthy to be deprived of ohr and imprisoned in the lyla.

5 And when they had determined to slay the babies of Your kidushim, one child being cast forth and saved, to reprove them, You took away the multitude of their children and destroyed them altogether in a mighty mayim.

6 Of that lyla were our ahvot certified before, that assuredly knowing to what oaths they had given credence, they might afterwards be of tov cheer.

7 So Your people were accepted both in the salvation of the tzadikim and destruction of their enemies.

8 For by that which You punished our adversaries, by the same You raised us up whom You had called.

9 For the tzadik children of tov men worshipped secretly and with one consent made a set apart Torah, that the kidushim should be like partakers of the same tov and evil, the ahvot now singing out the shirim of hallel.

10 But on the other side, there sounded an accordingly ill cry of the enemies and a lamentable noise was carried abroad for children that were mourned for.

11 The master and the eved were punished in like manner. Like the melech, so suffered the common person.

12 So they all together had innumerable dead with one kind of death; neither were the living sufficient to bury them: for in one moment the noblest offspring of them was destroyed.

13 Because they would not believe anything by reason of the prior signs; upon the destruction of the bachorim, they acknowledged this people to be the sons of Ahlohim.

14 For while all things were in quiet silence and that lyla was in the midst of her swift course,

15 Your Almighty Word,OSWHY, leaped down from the shamayim out of Your royal kesay, as a fierce Man of War into the midst of a land of destruction, Mitzrayim,

16 And brought Your unfeigned mitzvah, as a sharp two edged sword and standing up, filled all things with death; and it touched down from the shamayim, but it stood upon the olam.

17 Then suddenly visions of horrible dreams troubled them greatly and terrors came upon them unlooked for.

18 And one thrown here and another there, half dead, showed the cause of his death.

19 For the dreams that troubled them did foreshadow this, lest they should perish and not know why they were afflicted.

20 Yes, the tasting of death touched the tzadikim also and there was a destruction of the multitude in the midbar: but the wrath endured not long.

21 For then the blameless man made haste and stood forth to defend them; and bringing the shield of his ministry, even tefillah and the propitiation of incense, set himself against the wrath and so brought the calamity to an end, showing that he was Your eved.

22 So he overcame the destroyer, not with strength of gooff, nor force of arms but with a Word subdued the destroyer, confirming the oaths and britot made with the ahvot.

23 For when the dead were now fallen down by heaps one upon another, standing between, he held back the wrath and showed the derech to the living.

24 For in his long garment was the whole olam pictured and in the four rows of the stones was the tifereth of the ahvot engraved and Your Majesty upon the keter on his head.

25 Unto these the destroyer gave place and was afraid of them: for it was enough that they only tasted of the wrath.

19 As for the wicked, wrath came upon them without rachamim to the end: for He knew before what they would do;

2 How that having given them leave to depart and sending them hastily away, they would change their minds and pursue them.

3 For while they were yet mourning and making lamentation at the graves of their dead, they added another foolish device and pursued them as fugitives, whom they had asked to be gone.

4 For the end for which they were worthy drew them to this end and made them forget the things that had already come to pass, that they might add the one punishment which was lacking to their torments:

5 And that Your people might pass in a wonderful derech: but they might find a strange death.

6 For the whole creation submissive to your mitzvoth, had its very nature recreated, so that Your children might be kept without hurt:

7 Namely, a cloud shadowing the camp; and where mayim stood before, dry land appeared; and out of The Yam Suf, He made a derech without impediment; and out of the violent stream a green field:

8 Where all the people went through, that were defended with Your Right Hand, seeing Your marvelous strange nisim.

9 For they went like horses at pasture and leaped like lambs, praising You, O YHUH, who had delivered them.

10 For they were yet mindful of the things that were done while they sojourned in the strange land, how the ground brought forth flies instead of cattle and how the river cast up a multitude of frogs instead of fishes.

11 But afterwards they saw a new generation of fowls, when, being led with their appetite, they asked for delicate meats.

12 For quails came up to them from the sea for their contentment.

13 And punishments came upon the sinners not without the force of thunders: for they suffered justly according to their own wickedness, as they also showed a more hard and hateful behavior toward strangers.

14 Others did not receive those whom they knew not when they came: but the Mitzrites brought chaverim into bondage that had well deserved better treatment from them.

15 And not only so, but these sinners abused strangers not being friendly to them:

16 But these very grievously were afflicted by them, whom they had at first received with feastings and were already made partakers of the same Mitzrite laws with them.

17 Therefore even with blindness were these stricken, as those were at the doors of the tzadik man: when, being surrounded with horrible great darkness, every one sought the passage of his own doors.

18 For the elements were changed in themselves by a kind of harmony, like as in a psaltery notes change the name of the tune and yet are always sounds; which may well be perceived by the sight of the things that have been done.

19 For earthly things were turned into watery and the things, that before swam in the mayim, now went upon the ground.

20 The fire had power in the mayim, forgetting its own virtue: and the mayim forgot its own quenching nature.

21 On the other hand, the flames did not destroy the flesh of the corruptible living things, though they walked in it; neither melted the icy kind of heavenly meat that was by nature apt to melt.

22 For in all things, O YHUH, You magnified Your people and esteemed them, neither did You lightly regard them: but assisted them in every time and place. X
